Butterfly Effect
Collaboration
Em Milner and Tim Skinner
August 2014 – February 2015

Taking place between August 2014 till February 2015, Butterfly Effect was bringing together two practices. Sculptor Em Milner, who at the time was creating mediative floor dwelling spacial boulders – ceramic rocks with high reflective lustre. We both had mutual respect for each others practices and wanted to collaborate. After various discussions, meetings and experiments we decided to partner with Firstsite and in turn managed to secure Arts Council England funding. Butterfly Effect would be a project which would see Em and I compose a series of craft workshops engaging a local SEN primary school with our practices. The output would be two installation exhibitions; one created by us and one created by the children.

Fascinated with texture, space and colour our practices merged together successfully, a fun collaboration, and hugely rewarding. We undertook in-total three half-day workshops; for me I wanted to work with the children on colour and movement whereas Em wanted to engage the children with tactile sculptural practices.

Would like to thank both Firstsite and Arts Council England for their support throughout the project.
